Subject dead in North Carolina officer-involved shooting; officer injured
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The man shot during an incident with a Raleigh, North Carolina police officer has died, officials confirmed. An officer involved sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds.
Just after 11:30 a.m., officers responded to 241 Donald Ross Drive concerning a report of a man with a gun.
The subject had left the area when the first officer arrived on scene but soon reappeared in the street.
The man then took off on foot and the officer gave chase. A second officer arrived on scene and began to chase the man as well.
Raleigh police said shots were fired at 311 Donald Ross Drive, police said.
An adult male officer was transported to WakeMed for treatment of gunshot wounds. Raleigh police said the officer sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries
The other subject was pronounced dead.
The SBI will investigate and provide its findings to the Wake County district attorney.
Raleigh police’s Internal Affairs Unit will conduct an administrative investigation that will focus on departmental policy compliance.
About 50 cruisers could be seen at nearby WakeMed Hospital as reports circulated that a police officer was shot.
Raleigh Police released a 911 call Monday afternoon related to the shooting incident.
The call was made at 11:36 a.m. by a woman who said there was a man with a gun.
“There’s a man with a gun outside and he is trespassing because he is not supposed to be here!” the woman said.
The person also said that someone – possibly police – “have been here like four times for him,” the 911 caller said.
