Syracuse man killed in hit-and-run in Noble Co.

NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A Syracuse man was found dead in a corn field in rural Noble County, according to the Noble County Sheriff’s Department.

Police believe the man may have been struck by a vehicle, which then left the area.

The department said they received a “welfare check request” for Anastacio Lopez, 47, Syracuse, around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday. A deputy with the sheriff’s department received information from Lopez’s family members that he was last seen in an area around County Road 1200 West and U.S. 6.

The deputy searched the area and located a shoe on County Road 1200 West, south of County Road 550 North (southwest of Ligonier).

A short time later, the deputy discovered Lopez’s body in a corn field. Investigators said it appeared Lopez was struck by a vehicle.

Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene, according to NCSD.

Police are conducting an investigation to try and determine who struck Lopez and left the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Noble County Sheriff’s Department or Detective Joe Hutsell at (260) 636-2182.
