Trump HQ opens in Carmel

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — A Donald Trump campaign headquarters is now open in Carmel.

Trump also has an office in Evansville and one that will soon open in Fort Wayne.

The headquarters is in Hamilton County because it is a Republican battleground. There are more Republican voters there than anywhere else in Indiana. It’s also the best place to find campaign volunteers.

The Trump headquarters opened quietly over the weekend, and a grand opening is scheduled for Wednesday.

It’s in a strip mall at the intersection of 116th Street and Rangeline Road, near downtown Carmel. A shipment of materials for campaign signs sat unopened on the sidewalk Tuesday.

Campaign workers declined a request to shoot video inside the headquarters, but Trump Indiana vice chairman Tony Samuel says the Hoosier state campaign is up to speed.

“We’re off and running,” he said. “There are people knocking on doors. There are people making phone calls. We’ve got yard signs. We’ve got all the campaign material that we’ll be distributing and have already started distributing throughout the state.”

A John Kasich headquarters is set to open soon a few miles down 116th Street in Fishers, and Ted Cruz’s campaign office was just set up in Lawrence.

There is also a Ted Cruz office opening in Evansville, and it’s in the same building as the Trump headquarters.

All of this GOP activity comes days after both the Bernie Sanders and the Hillary Clinton campaigns opened their Indiana headquarters.

The May primary is three weeks away.
