UIndy grad launches web-based meal delivery service

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH ) – A new web application is making it possible for you to get your favorite food without ever leaving your home or office.

The Mealski website launched Friday.

Customers sign in on the website using their mobile phones and it will show what restaurants in the area are available. Then you can order whatever you’re craving and for a delivery fee of $3.69, you’ll get that food without even leaving your seat.

It’s an Uber style service, where drivers are hired to go pick the food up from the restaurants and then bring it to the customer.

“We specialize in restaurants that do not deliver, so as a consumer you have fast, simple, easy delivery,” Mealski Founder Dan Owenby said.

Owenby is a recent UIndy grad who came up with the idea for a class, but soon after graduation realized it could be a reality. Within just a matter of months Owenby said his one man team expanded to about 15 employees and now he has 25 drivers signed on as well.

He’s hoping it will take off in Indianapolis and spread from there.

“We also partner with The Lunchbox Fund to donate a meal, so it’s a very seamless process,” Owenby said.

The Lunchbox Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to feeding impoverished kids in South Africa. Owenby said for every meal delivered through Mealski, one meal will be donated to The Lunch Box Fund.

Mealski service is only available on the UIndy campus right now. If you try to sign on outside that area, the website will indicate that no restaurants are available in your area and then offer you an option to suggest restaurants you’d like to see in the future.

Owenby said Mealski will expand to Broad Ripple on March 1. From there, other areas in and around Indianapolis will be added.
