Who killed Alexis Gomez?

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Alexis Gomez was just 21. He was loved, cherished and valued.

Gomez’s dad had a vision for his family. He wanted to provide more opportunities for his sons, so he moved them from Mexico to Indiana.

Gomez was fulfilling that vision, he was as a college student at IUPUI. He and his friends chipped in and rented out a house in the 2600 block of Bazil Avenue.

On a Saturday morning in February of 2016, something went terribly wrong inside of Gomez’s home.

Police were dispatched to the house on a shots fired call. When officers arrived they found Gomez, who had been shot. Crews rushed him to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The night before the shooting, police say Gomez’s house was packed with people for a party.

The party went into the wee hours of the morning. As things started to settle down, Gomez stood alone in his room when someone fired a shot through the 21-year-old’s bedroom window and the bullet struck Gomez in the head.

Crews rushed Gomez to the hospital where doctors later pronounced him dead.

In the aftermath, police questioned those on the scene. Detective Marcus Kennedy says those at the house were cooperative, but the information didn’t yield any suspects.

“Somebody knows something,” said Kennedy.

Detectives canvassed the area and found a surveillance camera at a neighbor’s house that showed video of two men running from Gomez’s house at the time of the murder.

Kennedy has no doubts the two are responsible for Gomez’s murder.

“They are the suspects, without a doubt,” said Kennedy.

The video is too dark to make out any faces, but you can clearly see the images of the men running away.

24-Hour News 8 reached out to Gomez’s dad, but those attempts were unsuccessful.

Kennedy adds that Gomez’s father sent his other son back to Mexico to live, after Alexis’ murder.
