Carmel girls swimming and diving team sets new record with 34th straight state championship

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Carmel girls swimming and diving team won their 34th consecutive state championship on Saturday.

According to Indiana High School Athletic Association, Inc., the streak extends the longest active streak of state championships in the country of any sport or gender.

The team set the record during the two-day competition at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.

Freshman Berit Berglund garnered the top spot in the 100 backstroke, becoming the state champion. Carmel scored the fourth most points all-time with 426 and Fishers finished as runners up.
