Franklin Community HS powerlifters make noise at championships
FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) — Meet Jennica, Shelby and Kloie — three Franklin Community High School teens who put up massive numbers in the weight room. Benching 200, squatting 250 and dead lifting 300 pounds comes naturally. Which is why they spent last week in Texas competing at the Powerlifting World Championships as members of Team USA.
This didn’t mark the first time one of these weight lifters competed for the red, white and blue. Shelby won gold in Denmark as a member of the national bench press team.
“Just being able to be at this point with the rest of Team USA and representing our country is a huge deal,” Shelby Miles said. “And something that I’ve always wanted to do.”
These girls not only hold records at their own school, but their strength has given them global recognition. They each rank in the top five in the world within their weight class.
“I have a lot of special athletes that comes through here. But it’s these three girls, it’s just something you pick out…there was a spark in them that helped them go above and beyond all the other kids,” said coach Jeremy Hartman.
They are pushing each other to be the best in the world one rep at a time.
