Jail worker arrested for assisting an inmate

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A 24-year-old jail officer at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department was arrested Monday on suspicion of trafficking with an inmate, officials said Tuesday in a news release.

Department officials say Jerrica Kirby, of Shelbyville, provided tobacco and the use of her phone during her work hours to 28-year-old Michael Corley who is a jail inmate.

Kirby has worked at the jail for two years, according to the news release.

Officials arrested Corley, and another man, Adam Bennett, 29, on suspicion of trafficking with an inmate and bribery.

Kirby was released from custody after posting bond; she is scheduled to appear in Shelby County Circuit Court on April 2, according to the jail website.
