Guilty verdict reached in 2013 home invasion trial
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – After 10 hours of deliberating, a jury found four men accused in two violent home invasions on the north side of Indianapolis guilty.
Adrian Anthony, Michael Pugh, Alexander Dupree and Demetre Brown have been on trial for the past week. They were all charged in connection to the 79th Street home invasion, where police say a mother and daughter were sexually assaulted. Investigators also say the suspects shot the mother in her leg, took her to an ATM and forced her to give them cash.
The suspects each faced 35 charges including rape, criminal confinement and robbery. All four men pleaded not guilty in the case.
Anthony, Pugh and Brown were also charged in another home invasion on nearby Spring Mill Road. In that case, they’re accused of beating homeowners before ransacking the home. Anthony sat down with I-Team 8 and said he forced the victims to give him money, but never hurt or raped them. He’s charged with murder in an unrelated case.
Tuesday morning jurors found all four men guilty of the main counts against them in the 79th Street home invasion, which included rape, criminal confinement and robbery. Adrian Anthony was found guilty of every charge against him.
One of the victims in the case spoke with 24-Hour News 8 Tuesday morning.
“It’s been a long 16 months dealing with this and waiting for this to come to justice,” she said. “We feel good they are being sentenced and that these guys are off the streets. That was our goal all along was to prevent them from doing this to someone else. They’re dangerous, mean and now can’t terrorize anyone else.”
Marion County Deputy Prosecutor Lindsay Gedig also spoke about the trial.
“Any case is emotional. You can’t stay away from that but obviously this family was very helpful and very involved,” Gedig said. “So, that obviously brought some emotion into it but you also, as a prosecutor, you have to take yourself away from that to some extent.”
Anthony, Pugh, Dupree and Brown are all scheduled to be sentenced April 8. This won’t be the end of the home invasion cases. Several other people have been charged in either one or both of the incidents. They are:
- Trae Spells
- Isaiah Hill (aka Zeke Hill)
- Taiwan Lundy
- Amber Deckard
- James Phillips
- Ira Marsh
- Jade Lundy
- Renee Washington
- Sierra White
