Elbert Tucker to join WISH-TV as News Director

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Les Vann, President and General Manager for WISH-TV and MyINDY-TV, today announced Elbert Tucker as News Director for 24 Hour News 8.

“For more than two decades Elbert has served in leadership capacities at two of the finest news operations in the country, WKRC in Cincinnati and currently at WBNS in Columbus,” said Vann. “His strong history of content, strategy, and research-based innovation across all platforms has resulted in strong number one news operations in these extremely competitive markets. We look forward to Elbert’s experience and leadership joining WISH-TV’s legacy and long-standing commitment to news.”

Mr. Tucker has been news director at WBNS, Columbus Ohio, since 2010. Most of his 30-year news career was at WKRC in Cincinnati, Ohio. He began there in 1992 as executive producer, promoted to assistant news director in 1996 and news director in 2001, serving in the role for a decade before moving to WBNS. Prior to Cincinnati, Mr. Tucker worked at WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama, where he worked his way up through the producer ranks to executive producer. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and was hired out of college, in 1984, at WTVC in Chattanooga.

His teams have been awarded the Associated Press award for “Outstanding News Operation” in Ohio four times, the Ohio Valley Regional Emmy award for “News Excellence” two times and Edward R. Murrow awards for documentary and for breaking news

Mr. Tucker is an avid outdoorsman, a history buff, and a sports trivia aficionado. He and his wife have two children and look forward to making Indianapolis home.
