Westfield unveils new ‘smart playground’

WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) – There is a new playground that blends the old with the new that was unveiled in Simon Moon Park on Saturday.

The ‘smart playground’ features the typical attractions of a playground including swings and slides. What is not typical are the QR codes that are strategically placed throughout the playground.

“The new equipment is one of the first in Hamilton County,” explains Melody Jones, Westfield Parks and Recreation Director. “This playground uses modern day technology and historic fairy tales to teach children the kinds of moral insights of which Hans Christian Anderson is known.”

When families or parents have a tablet or smartphone, they can scan the code and have popular fairy tales appear on their screen.

“Our parks department is always looking for new ways to enlighten, inspire and educate our Westfield youth,” says Mayor Andy Cook. “The new playground equipment will do just that for generations to come.”
