DNA links Bloomington rape suspect to 1999 rape

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – Court documents said that the man arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in June was linked to the crime because he left DNA on the victim’s comforter.

Jerald Honeycutt, 34, of Bloomington, was charged with rape, burglary, intimidation, confinement and strangulation after a 73-year-old woman was assaulted.

Court documents also stated that Honeycutt’s DNA was matched to an unsolved Monroe County rape case from 1999, where a 62-year-old woman was raped inside her home.

According to officials, Honeycutt was arrested in later in 1999 for residential entry when he was found inside a 47-year-old woman’s home and was arrested again in 2001 for burglary and battery after breaking into a 53-year-old woman’s home.

His DNA was not in the system prior to the sexual assault in Bloomington.
