INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indiana State Fair kicks off Friday morning with the traditional hot air balloon launch at sunrise.
The opening ceremony will begin at 8:30.
For anyone looking forward to the rides and food, the Midway opens at noon. Fairgoers can enjoy unlimited rides for $30.
This year there has been some changes to the beer and wine regulations. Last year was the first year in decades that alcohol was allowed at the state fair, but people could only drink it inside the exhibit and had a limited number of drinks they could buy.
Now it will be up to security and servers to decide who has had enough to drink, and those 21 and older will be able to drink alcohol at select concerts.
“We are excited to welcome back the beer and wine exhibit for the second year. We got great feedback from the vendors, great feedback from the visitors and we’re really loving keeping it local and showcases all the local commodities that come out of Indiana,” said Lesley Gordon with the Indiana State Fair.
Tickets are $12 at the gates and $9 plus convenience fees online. Kids under five are free and a parking pass will cost $5.
There will be a concert Friday night at 7:30 when the Indigo Girls take the stage. That’s right before the tractor parade and hot air balloon night glow, which should start around 9:00 p.m.
