Father shoots daughter, himself during altercation in Brown County

BROWN COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A father shot and killed himself after shooting his daughter over the weekend, according to police.

Police say the shooting happened in a home on Sweetwater Trail just after 2 a.m. on Saturday. The man died and the daughter survived, 24-Hour News 8’s partners at the Brown County Democrat report.

According to the Brown County Chief Deputy, the father and daughter were arguing when the father shot his 28-year-old daughter in the torso at least once. After shooting his daughter the father went to a bedroom and shot himself.

A third person was inside the home at the time of the shooting. She told police she wasn’t sure if she witnesses the altercation. She said the father and daughter had been drinking, but didn’t know if they were intoxicated.

The daughter was flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital. She was later released. The father died on his way to the hospital.
