Purdue employee accused of online threats steps down

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Purdue University officials have confirmed the man at the center of a rape threat controversy last week on campus has quit.

Jamie Newman, a part-time Purdue accompanist and composer, has resigned from his position Monday effective immediately.

Purdue released a statement saying, “The University has accepted the resignation and believes this is the appropriate outcome.”

Police were investigating Newman after he allegedly threatened to rape someone’s wife, daughter and great-grandmother. He was also accused of verbally attacking the Purdue Students for Life group, calling them “vile, racist idiots.”

Purdue decided not to take any action against Newman, but did demand an apology from him the following day.
