Kzoo County deadly rampage suspect: Who is Jason Dalton?
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) – Authorities Sunday identified the suspect in a series of deadly Kalamazoo County shootings as Jason Dalton.
As of Sunday morning, little was known about the 45-year-old man who police believe randomly chose victims.
State records showed Dalton does not have a criminal history in Michigan or Indiana.
Sunday morning, investigators were at Daltons home on Douglas Avenue, northwest of Kalamazoo, searching for evidence.
Detectives believe Dalton shot eight people outside a townhouse, restaurant and vehicle dealership in Kalamazoo County, killing four women, a father and his 18-year-old son.
A 14-year-old girl was in grave condition Sunday morning; a woman shot several times was severely injured but expected to survive, Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeffrey Getting said.
He said Dalton was in contact with someone during the shootings, but Getting would not disclose who.
Getting said Dalton was even-tempered and cooperative when police arrested him around 12:40 a.m. Sunday during a traffic stop in Kalamazoo.
Officers found a semi-automatic handgun inside his vehicle.
Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley said so far, there’s no clear motive for the shootings.
Getting said the victims did not know the suspect.
