High winds spread fire throughout vacant Indy home

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An early morning fire heavily damaged a vacant Indianapolis home Monday.

It happened in the 600 block of  South Biltmore Avenue around 2:40 a.m. Crews arrived on scene and found heavy fire coming through the roof.

According to Wayne Township Fire Department officials, high winds contributed to the fast progression of the fire. Firefighters found wholes in the floor when they first went inside.

It took them about 15 minutes to get the fire under control. One home next door suffered exterior damage due to the heat.

No injuries reported and damages have been estimated at $30,000.

Investigators are working to determine a cause.
