Death of Ben Davis student found near dumpster ruled a homicide

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The March death of a Ben Davis High School student has been ruled a homicide, Indianapolis police sources tell 24-Hour News 8.

Renia Woods, 18, was found unresponsive near a dumpster at 14th Street and North Campbell Avenue on March 21. She was later pronounced dead.

Police said Woods was babysitting her younger siblings when she stepped outside and never returned. A man collecting trash found her beside the dumpster.

The Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township released this statement back in March:

We are deeply saddened by the death of Ben Davis High School senior Renia Woods, and are cooperating fully with law enforcement officers investigating her death.

The Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township is closed this week and next for spring break. However, counselors are being made available at Ben Davis for any students or staff who wish to utilize them.
