Fish kill closes Evansville Mesker Park Zoo to the public

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – A fish kill in a lake has prompted Evansville’s Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden to temporarily close to the public.

The zoo posted a notice on its website Monday morning saying it was closed temporarily because of the overnight fish kill. The notice said the investigation and cleanup were expected to take a few hours.

Zoo officials say hundreds of fish died, but no other aquatic life in the lake was affected.

The cause of the fish kill was under investigation. Zoo officials say staff veterinarian Dr. Carrie Ullmer was examining a sample of the fish to try to determine the cause.
