Sallie Mae bringing hundreds of jobs to Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Sallie Mae will employ up to 300 people over the next few years. The company made the announcement as part of their economic development plan.
Governor Mike Pence, Lt. Governor Eric Holcomb, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett and U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks all joined executives for the announcement on Thursday morning.
Sallie Mae also plans to employ 189 people at their Woodfield Crossing facility. Sallie Mae recently renovated the three-story building on Indianapolis’ northeast side. That space includes 550 workstations, five conference rooms, two training rooms, a multipurpose room and a micro-market and break room.
A primary portion of the jobs will be in IT and pay 25 percent more than the average wage of Hoosiers throughout the state. The company says they are investing $15.7 million in Indianapolis.
Sally Mae has also been giving back to the community. They’ve contributed $10,000 to the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation of Indiana to support local veterans. They also support several area nonprofits.
