Decatur Township business goes up in flames
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Officials are trying to figure out what caused a barn at Decatur Township business to go up in flames.
The fire started around 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday at Greenwald Enterprises on Hayworth Road.
The Decatur Township Fire Department said when firefighters arrived they found a barn fully engulfed in flames.
The fire department said it took some time to begin attacking the fire due to the closest water supply being about a half mile away. They were also concerned the equipment inside of the barn could pose a hazard.
Decatur Township Fire Department’s Assistant Chief Chuck Valentine said, “When you compound an exposure such as fuel in those tanks next to a burning building it’s just going to complicate things, possibly maybe even explode causing addition injury or damage to civilians and personnel. So taking those first lines in and trying to cool down would have been the priority of the first arriving companies.”
It took about 50 firefighters from Decatur Township, Wayne Township and the Indianapolis fire departments to put out the flames.
There are no reports of any injuries.
The cost of damage is unknown.
