Semi fire closes northbound I-65 in Tippecanoe County

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A one-mile stretch of Interstate 65 Northbound was shut down Sunday due to a semi fire.

Officials with the Lafayette Fire Department said the northbound lanes of I-65 were closed from mile marker 171 to 172 at about 5 p.m. The one-mile portion of the interstate will remain closed until about 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

A Sheffield Township firefighter noticed smoke on the interstate and called dispatch.

Responders found the trailer of a semi carrying frozen chicken products on fire near the 171 mile marker. Officials said the fire may have been caused by brakes.
