Hope mother overdoses with child in vehicle

HOPE, Ind. (WISH) – A mother was arrested after officers found her passed out from a drug overdose with her toddler son sitting next her in her vehicle.

According to the Hope Police Department, 25-year-old Erika Hurt was arrested for charges of neglect of a dependent and possession of paraphernalia.

Police found Hurt passed out in the vehicle at a local business with her 10-month-old son.

Hope town marshal Matt Tallent, said Hurt was found with a syringe in her left hand on Saturday around 2 p.m. Medics had to administer two doses of the opiod antidote naloxone.

Hurt was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital and the child was turned over to his grandmother.

Tallent said Hurt would be held at the Bartholomew County Jail without bond because she was on probation.

This is Hope’s second heroin overdose this year. Both people were revived according to Tallent.
