Injured deputy writes note from hospital after deadly fire
FLORA, Ind. (WISH) -A Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy injured while responding to a deadly fire has credited a fellow officer for saving his life.
Deputy Drew Yoder remained in the hospital Thursday following the early Monday morning fire that killed four children.
Flora police officer Josh Disinger visited Yoder after his own release from treatment.
Disinger posted a picture on Facebook of a handwritten note that reads “u saved my life Josh.”
Included on the post, Disinger wrote “Drew wrote this to me today. It means far more to me than any plaque or award I have received in my life. And I will cherish it as such!”
The fire ripped through the home on Columbia Street in Flora killing four sisters: Kionnie Precious Welch, 5, Kerriele Danyell McDonald, 7, Keyara Janell Phillips, 9, and Keyana Latrice Davis, 11.
Disinger and Yoder were pushed back by flames and smoke while trying to get inside the burning home.
Yoder was airlifted to a hospital after suffering smoke inhalation and burns to his hands and forehead.
The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office said due to the amount of damage to the building, the cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined.
