2 vacant houses in same block catch fire
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Dispatched to a double residence blaze on Thursday afternoon, firefighters said they arrived to find that house and another home burning.
Indianapolis Fire Department said the two vacant homes were in the first block of South Belleview Place. That’s southwest of the intersection of West Washington Street and South Belmont Avenue on the west side.
One firefighter was slightly hurt and taken to a hospital for evaluation, said a news release from IFD spokeswoman Rita Rieth. No other injuries were reported.
Indianapolis, Speedway and Wayne Township fire departments were sent to the fires shortly after 12:35 p.m., the release said. Both fires were under control by 1:15 p.m.
The two-story double residence received $100,000 in damage, and, south of there, the single-story house received damages totaling $60,000.
Investigators had not yet determined the cause of the fires, the release said.
