INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indy Fresh Market, Indianapolis’ newest grocery store, is hosting its official grand opening celebration on Tuesday.

It is located at 6160 E. 38th Street near Sheridan Avenue. This area has long been considered a food desert and has some of the highest rates of diabetes and other food-related illnesses. The closest grocery store is about 3 miles away, and shoppers cannot access it on the bus line.

Indy Fresh Market offers fresh produce and a variety of meat and deli options every day from 7 a.m.– 9 p.m.

Customers can also set up home delivery and in-store pickup services.

The store is expecting an annual impact of $4.6 million in wages.

The owners hope to add grocery stores in all the food deserts around Indianapolis.

“As lifelong best friends, Marckus and Michael cultivated an entrepreneurial spirit from an early age, eagerly taking on various odd jobs in and around the neighborhood,” explained the Indy Fresh Market website. “Their unwavering dedication and commitment to their community served as a catalyst for their vision of establishing a place that would provide exceptional grocery shopping experiences for their fellow residents.”

The grand opening celebration will begin at 11 a.m.
