Muncie house fire kills 9-year-old boy
MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) — A 9-year-old boy is dead after a house fire in Muncie.
The fire occurred just before 4 a.m. Thursday morning near 29th and Walnut streets.
The boy has been identified as Vincent Gibbons.
Investigators said he was asleep in a loft on the second floor and that the fire started in the kitchen. The loft area collapsed into the kitchen.
Investigators said the boy didn’t have any burn marks on his clothing.
A family friend that spoke to News 8’s Richard Essex says that the boy’s mother had been doing laundry at the grandmother’s house and fell asleep.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
