Small plane with engine trouble lands in Frankfort field

FRANKFORT, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a small plane carrying a flight student and instructor from Purdue University landed safely in a central Indiana field after the plane’s engine failed.

The plane took off from Purdue University Airport and was heading to Marion, Indiana, when the engine trouble started Wednesday morning. The Clinton County sheriff’s office says in a statement that they turned around to try to return to the university airport, but the engine quit.

The sheriff’s office says they tried to land at Frankfort Municipal Airport in Clinton County, but decided they wouldn’t make it to the airport. They ended up making an emergency landing in the field about 40 miles northwest of Indianapolis. They walked away uninjured.

An investigation is planned to determine what led to the engine failure.
