Record-breaking cold to move in next week

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana has had a couple of cold blasts in January, but the one Hoosiers see next week will contain bitter cold arctic air.

Temperatures will drop to end the workweek, but an even colder blast of air will move in next week.

By Tuesday, just before the end of January, highs will only climb into the single digits.

In fact, it will be so cold that we’re on track to set a new minimum record high.

Our forecast high is in the middle single digits Tuesday and the record minimum high for Jan. 30 is 7, set back in 2004.

Our normal high for this time of year is 36.

A look back at the weather for the last 20 years in Indianapolis show only six Januarys where highs were in the single digits.

Last year, central Indiana saw two days where highs were in the single digits, three in 2014 and one each in 2009, 2004, 2003 and 1999.
