3 detained after man found shot on I-65

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A person is in critical condition after a shooting on Interstate 65, state police said. An update just before 11 p.m. from Indiana State Police said he is expected to survive.

The shooting happened around 4:33 p.m. Monday along a stretch of northbound I-65 near 29th Street. ISP Senior Trooper Nick Klingkammer said there was an argument inside a car that led to shots being fired.

An ISP press release indicates callers reported the man was down on the side of the road.

The person was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition, Sgt. John Perrine with ISP said via Twitter.

ISP said it has three people in custody, who are being interviewed. The incident was not believed to be random or to be related to road rage.

Earlier Monday evening, ISP detained several people at the Abney Lake Apartment Homes. Klingkammer said one of the people detained called state police notifying them they wanted to speak.

ISP also impounded two cars from the scene. Investigators believe the shooting happened inside one of the cars. They believe the other car was used by some of the suspects after the shooting.

No additional information was immediately available.
