Grant helps pay for Beech Grove playground

BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) — The city of Beech Grove got a new playground on Monday with the help of the Indianapolis Colts and the American Dairy Association.

The $10,000 “Hometown Grant” supports healthy nutrition and physical activities.

The Hometown Grant program is partly developed by the NFL and identifies deserving schools in NFL markets, helping to them meet their health and wellness goals.

Robert Kitchens, principal of Holy Name Catholic School, said Monday that they were well on their way to paying for the construction of the park through other fundraising efforts, but the grant put them over the top: “It may have been another year of fundraising before we were able to really do it the way we wanted to, but this grant made it possible to be done this fall, and ready to go.”

In its third year, the grant program will provide $320,000 to schools nationwide.
