Whiteland sinkhole closes Whiteland Road near high school
WHITELAND, Ind. (WISH) — A sinkhole in Whiteland closed Whiteland Road on Tuesday morning near the high school and elementary school, police say.
A town administrator told News 8 on Tuesday afternoon that rainy, stormy weather was impacting repairs. The town’s Public Works was working on it, but no estimated time for the detour to end was immediately available.
Whiteland Police Department said in a post on X that the sinkhole opened overnight from the heavy rains and flooding. The sinkhole measured approximately 3 feet wide and 5 feet deep.
Whiteland Road was completely closed at U.S. 31 and Center Street for safety reasons.
The Whiteland town government shared on Facebook a detour around the sinkhole.
