No survivors after plane crashes near Anderson Municipal Airport

Authorities give update on fatal plane crash

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — No one survived a Friday morning plane crash near Anderson, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

The single-engine plane went down shortly before 10 a.m. in the 4300 block of East County Road 100 South. That’s approximately 4 miles southwest of Anderson Municipal Airport.

The plane departed from Fort Dodge, Iowa, just after 6:45 a.m. and was expected to land in Anderson. The initial flight plan was for four people, according to police.

“The plane was making its initial approach to the Anderson airport. They were too high. They were told to reroute and make another approach,” Capt. Darwin Dwiggins told the media just before noon Friday.

Witnesses told first responders that it looked like the plane was flying south, possibly trying to turn back toward the airport, when it “flipped over and just nosedived into the cornfield,” Dwiggins said.

Officials from the FAA and investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board were on the way to the crash site and information about the crash and those on board will be limited until then.

“It’s going to be a long process moving forward to clean up the wreckage, investigate the wreckage, before we can really give you much more as far as information of who these people are,” Dwiggins said.

This story is developing and will be updated as soon as more information becomes available.
