6-year-old girl dies following accidental shooting in southern Indiana

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A 6-year-old girl is dead in southern Indiana after a gun accidentally discharged inside a residence.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. when officers were dispatched out to a home in the 5000 block of South PD Baker Road in Washington County.

Upon arrival, police found that 6-year-old Makayla Bowling had been shot in the head after her father was cleaning his gun while thinking it was unloaded.

Makayla was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The case remains under investigation.
