Bloomington man knocked woman out of wheelchair, raped her, police say
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — A Bloomington man faces rape and criminal confinement charges after police say he knocked a woman out of her wheelchair and raped her in her own home.
It happened on Sunday around 5 p.m. at a residence on North Walnut Street.
Police say 20-year-old Austin Bishop went to the home of a woman in her 20s to talk to her, and after being let into the home, he pushed her out of her wheelchair, raping her and threatening her with a knife. He left visible injuries to her hands, Bloomington police confirmed on Monday.
Bishop spoke to a family member about the incident, after which police say they were notified.
When investigators spoke with Bishop, they say he attributed his actions to having gone a few days without his medication for a mental illness.
Bishop remains in the Monroe County Jail.
