Grieving mother joins Ten Point Coalition

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Connie Miles puts on a neon green vest and walks the streets of Indianapolis. She is a member of the Ten Point Coalition, a group that works to prevent violence and empower neighborhoods.

Miles joined Ten Point after the murder of her son Derrick Thomas.

Someone shot and killed Thomas back in October 2014. Shortly after the shooting, detectives questioned five people. The questioning never lead to any charges or arrests.

As Miles waits for justice, she has been working with Ten Point to show others there is a better way.

On Tuesday afternoon, she gathered family and friends as they held a prayer vigil for Thomas. The group held pictures of the 25-year-old, prayed and released balloons.

Miles said she believes that one day her family will receive justice on who pulled the trigger.

“I’ve got too much love out here, all the prayers together, it will open someone’s heart to turn themselves in,” Miles said.

If you have any information in the murder of Thomas, call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477. Your tip will remain anonymous.
