Man found shot, dead on near north side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police are investigating after a man was found dead on the near north side of Indianapolis Monday morning.

Family members identified the victim as 40-year-old Henry Senteayehou.

Police were called to the 3700 block of North Chester Avenue near 38th Street and North Sherman Drive around 6 a.m. Inside the residence they found a victim dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

“We’re all just really struggling with it, we’ll miss him dearly,” said Marva Berry, one of Henry’s cousins.

“I remember him as being my big cousin, kind of like a big brother,” said Dodi Moncrief, another cousin.

Dozens of family members gathered at the family home Monday afternoon. While wishing it was under different circumstances, Henry’s cousins said getting the family together was his goal.

“He’s probably the one cousin I have that has been really trying hard to get all of us closer. There are a lot of cousins in the family, we have been really working hard to get closer to one another and making sure that each of us knows that we love another,” said Berry.

Henry’s girlfriend found him shot to death early Monday morning. His mom lived right next door.

“I don’t understand why someone would do this to him, and kind of destroy our whole family,” said Moncrief.

Moncrief said after he turned his own life around, he was starting to help her son.

“He actually just started, my older son was having some issues, he’s 19, so he had just started trying to mentor and talk to him,” said Moncrief.

Henry’s girlfriend was coming back from a vacation when she found him.

“I don’t know what it was over, but whatever it was, it wasn’t worth it,” said Moncrief.

IMPD released new homicide number Monday afternoon. Henry’s death is the 82nd homicide in the city this year. That’s up from 70 homicides at this time last year.

“It’s unacceptable and we have to do better,” said Sgt. Kendale Adams.

As this family prepares to say goodbye to the person who was trying to bring them together, they have a plea for you.

“I really hope that this person comes forward or if somebody knows something or saw something, or heard something that they come forward to the police,” said Moncrief.
