Gas station clerk fatally shot in head

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A store clerk was shot and killed at the McClure gas station located in the 5300 block of Rockville Road Friday morning.

Police said they were called to the city’s west side around 3:15 a.m. after reports of a robbery. When officers arrived they found a woman critically injured, lying outside the business suffering from head trauma.

Officers said she was originally found by a gas station customer.

The victim, 52-year-old Susan Seel, was transported to a nearby hospital but ended up passing away shortly after.

The victim’s mother said her daughter had just started working third shift when she was shot and killed.

“I don’t have anybody else. I had a boy and a girl, and my boy is in Texas and and she was living with me and that’s my only family,” Karen Seel said. “I’m really going to miss her”

No suspect information has been released at this time.

A local legislator was at the scene Friday and didn’t mince words.

“The industry has a duty to protect from whatever affects their workers,” Indiana State Representative Ed Delaney said.

“We had an agreement with the convenience store industry to have a safety store spectrum bill. So have the plexi glass, or have two workers or don’t be open at night. It was not rigid, it just gave options, especially in high-crime neighborhoods.” Delaney added.

Delaney said the bill was agreed to and later killed by lobbyists.

Karen Seel said Susan worked two jobs and volunteered at the food pantry at Fleming Garden Christian Church.

“I’ll just carry on like she would want me to. I’ll probably help with the food pantry that she helped with, I’ll probably pass out bibles since she can’t. Just try to keep her legacy going,” Karen Seel said.

Seel was transported to a nearby hospital but ended up passing away shortly after.
