Police apprehend offenders that walked away from work crew

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Two offenders were on the run after officials say they walked away from an Indiana Department of Correction work crew.

IDOC officials say 23-year-old Cody Morris and 23-year-old Troy Thomas who walked away from the work crew that was picking up trash in Columbus have been captured.

According to the IDOC, Morris and Thomas were spotted around 1:05 p.m. in Amity, Ind. off of U.S. 31. The IDOC Special Emergency Response Team, Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, Plainfield Police Department, U.S. Marshals, Indiana State Police, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources all assisted in the arrests.

Officials say Morris was serving a two-year sentence for car theft and receiving stolen property and had a possible release date of Aug. 31 of this year. Thomas was serving a one and a half year sentence for car theft and had a possible release date of Sept. 17, 2015.
