‘Open for Service’ campaign responds to RFRA
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Downtown Indy has partnered with Open for Service in hopes to show that local businesses will serve and welcome everyone.
Open for Service is the group behind the stickers that have started popping up around town saying “This Business Serves Everyone.”
The two groups have launched a competition called the “We Welcome All” challenge they hope will keep visitors coming to Indianapolis. Participants are asked to make a two-minute, non-political video telling a story about Indy’s welcoming atmosphere. People can vote for the best video, and the winner will get a $5,000 cash prize.
“Despite the passing of the Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration, we know not to give up. We are going to make sure our voices are heard loud and clear, that Hoosier Hospitality is here to stay and that in Indiana, We Like You Here,” reads Downtown Indy’s blog.
The state senator who co-authored the law said it will not affect these businesses or convention attendees.
“This is limited to a government entity so two private parties is not even a part of this bill at all. Everybody almost all the examples they give is two private parties having a difference. That’s not even a part of the bill. It’s nothing to do with it,” said Republican State Senator Dennis Kruse.
Still, opponents believe the law will hurt guests’ perception of Indiana. If you’d like to learn more about the #WeWelcomeAll Challenge click here.
