71-year-old dies after boating accident at Prairie Creek Reservoir

MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) — The Department of Natural Resources has identified a Muncie man who died Sunday morning after a boating accident at Prairie Creek Reservoir.

Emergency responders were called to the reservoir around 10:40 a.m. Sunday and arrived to find witnesses of the accident had recovered Lenard L. Anderson, 71, from the water and were administering CPR to him, the DNR said in a release.

Efforts to revive Anderson were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, the DNR said.

Witnesses told conservation officers Anderson may have had a medical emergency before the boat he was operating collided with another boat. Anderson was not wearing a life jacket or his engine cutoff lanyard before the collision, DNR said.

Conservation officers had to use a throw rope to disable Anderson’s boat, which was running in circles on the reservoir.

The accident on Sunday remained under investigation.
