Crashes involving 100+ vehicles shuts down I-80 in Wyoming

(WISH) — Three people are dead and an interstate highway in Wyoming was still closed Monday, a day after a massive traffic accident.

It’s actually at least two different accidents involving more 100 vehicles. The pileup around 3:39 p.m. Sunday was so large that Wyoming Highway Patrol authorities on Monday did not have an accurate count of the number of vehicles.

There are multiple injuries in addition to the three fatalities.

There aren’t enough tow trucks in the area to clear the scene quickly. Interstate 80 is not expected to open in either direction before Tuesday in the affected area from Interstate 80 mileposts 181-184 near Creston Junction.

Snow is thought to be a contributing factor in the accidents.
