‘Gr8 Comeback’: Hank’s Smoked Briskets reopens

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)– News 8’s “Gr8 Comeback” sent News 8’s Randall Newsome to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street to celebrate the reopening of Hank’s Smoked Briskets.

The locally owned barbecue spot with its recipes rooted in owner Hank Fields’ hometown of Henderson, Texas, was forced to close its doors for a month because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, News 8 watched the business open its doors as their phone started ringing and people showed back up for food from the self-proclaimed “Barbecue Mecca of the Midwest.”

What menu choices does manager Daniel Woods recommend for first-timers: “Everything.”

“We got people that come in and try something different every week,” he said.

Meanwhile, manager Brenda Pervine swears by one of the desserts.

“You might want to try that peach cobbler,” she said. “It’s to die for.”

She also recommended that barbecue lovers go for the “Big Hank.” It’s a baked potato topped with three different meats, sour cream and barbecue sauce.

You can walk in for pickup three people inside at a time, or you can use the drive-thru window. Their new hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday- Sunday. The address is 3736 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St.
