Indiana University students react to Kevin Wilson resigning as football coach
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana University students are responding Thursday night to the resignation of football coach Kevin Wilson.
Students told 24-Hour News 8 they are shocked and surprised by the announcement especially after the win against Purdue.
“Man, I was really stunned, really stunned,” said Chase Faris, IU student.
By the time Faris was going to night class he had already heard that Kevin Wilson was done as the head coach.
“I thought for sure he was going to stay around with the program for a couple of more years and watch the rise of it really happen, but apparently he’s not going to,” he said.
Wilson spent six seasons with the university’s football program and led the team to many victories.
“I’m not the biggest football IU fan but I’m a student here and I do support the team,” he said.
Robert Sherrell said the departure doesn’t seem right after the win against Purdue.
“We do have a lot of momentum, our fan base is growing the Hoosiers are pumped up more than ever,” said Sherrell. “But bringing in the wrong person could totally destroy that momentum.”
But the university wasted no time before naming Tom Allen as the new head coach. He joined the team earlier this year as a defensive coordinator.
“I just always have fun, I love coming to Bloomington, but the football games I love them,” said Casey Ross Junior, Indiana University football fan.
Casey Ross Junior is not a student at Indiana University but knows two football players on the team.
“I don’t think anybody saw that so it was pretty crazy, so I guess still go Hoosiers,” said Junior. “Even though I got on an Oregon hat– I’m sorry.”
The football team is headed to a bowl game for the second straight season. We won’t know which one until this weekend.
