Bethel University adds extension studies program
MISHAWAKA, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — Bethel University will partner with churches to allow students to take online courses and practicum experiences in an extension studies program.
Bethel’s former Dean of Adult and Graduate Studies, Terry Linhart, is now executive director of Extension Studies and will be working with Academic Director Kristi Monesmith on admission, enrollment and financial aid advice.
Three churches have already committed to the program this fall and another has agreed to join the program in the fall of 2021. The university is also working with other churches and have nearly two dozen also considering joining in the fall of
“Off-hand, for our size of school and the churches we are affiliated with, we could see 80 sites and 800 students … I think that’s a good target.” next year, Linhart said.
Linhart says all courses will initially take place online, but some could be taught on-site if enrollment grows. The program offers students a semester-long practicum at their church site, mostly consisting of ministry. He adds the school is exploring new majors within the program.
