Thursday’s business headlines
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Here’s a look at Thursday’s business headlines.
Samsung
Five devices were revealed from Samsung, including the Galaxy Note20 and Galaxy Note20 Ultra smartphones – that work like a computer and let you game.
Samsung also introduced tablets, a new smartwatch with advanced health features, and Galaxy buds earbuds.
Pre-orders or the Galaxy Note20 Ultra begin Thursday.
Costco
Costco says July sales rose 14% as it continues to benefit from selling high demand items like cleaning products and toilet paper.
E-commerce sales accelerated to a +76.1% pace.
Forced closures of smaller non-essential stories have helped boost sales as well.
Mortgage
Mortgage rates keep crushing it.
They just keep sliding lower, hitting yet another new record low this week. The benchmark 30-year fixed-rate mortgage fell eight basis points to 3.22%, according to Bankrate’s weekly survey of large lenders. That’s the lowest rate ever in more than three decades that the survey has been conducted.
Jobless claims
One point four million workers likely filed jobless claims as states pull back on reopenings.
That would be a modest drop from the week before.
Coronavirus surges in the south and west led more than 20 states to suspend or roll back the reopening of the restaurants, bars, gyms, movie theaters and other outlets.
