Students thank beloved principal Susan Jordan in tear-jerking video

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis elementary school principal who pushed children to safety moments before a school bus crash took her life Tuesday was thanked for her love and leadership in an emotional video last year.

Susan Jordan served as the principal at Amy Beverland Elementary School for 22 years.

“We lost a great educator today,” Lawrence Township schools superintendent Dr. Shawn A. Smith said of Jordan. “Quite frankly, we’re talking about a legend of education.”

As a school bus jumped a curb and careened toward her Tuesday afternoon, she pushed students to safety, the driver told investigators.

Set primarily to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” a video posted to YouTube in May 2015 features Jordan’s students and co-workers thanking her for her service to the school.
