INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Here’s a look at Tuesday’s business headlines.

Internet scams

Social Catfish says Indiana residents lost $35 million.

That comes to thousands in lost dollars per person.

Business and romance scams were the most common and often were phishing emails will provide a fraudulent link they ask you to click on.

Those 20-years-old and younger are the fastest growth rate of victims.

It also said the top apps where scams took place are Facebook, Google Hangouts, Instagram and Whatsapp.

Home sales

The housing boom may be over as new home sales fell to a pandemic low.

Sales of new single-family homes fell to an annualized rate of 676,000, 6.6% below May’s rate of 724,000 and 19.4% below the June 2020 level of 839,000.

The median price of a newly built home in June rose just 6% from June 2020.

American Airlines

Fuel supply delays and constraints are the latest issues to hit U.S. air carriers.

American said it is among several carriers facing the fuel supply shortage.

The airline said flights will carry additional fuel into airports affected by shortages.

Southwest Airlines

Southwest is offering employees “premium pay” to work on Days off, ramping up hiring in its large cities to help combat operational challenges.

During the airline’s second-quarter earnings call, CEO Gary Kelly cited a “combination of technology issues, followed by weaker weather challenges across our entire network,” which led to “significant crew availability concerns” as well as a series of flight delays or cancellations.
