Teen to be charged as adult in fatal Hancock County crash
GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — A New Palestine teen will be charged as an adult after police say he killed a bicyclist while driving drunk.
The Greenfield Reporter reports that Timothy Hughes will be charged as an adult after allegedly striking two cyclists on August 11.
Online court documents list Hughes’ birthday is August 19, meaning the incident occurred eight days before his 18th birthday.
Hughes faces five felony charges and one misdemeanor.
Charges include OWI causing death, OWI causing serious injury, possession of a narcotic drug and illegal possession of an alcoholic beverage.
Hughes is being held on $20,000 bond in the Hancock County Jail.
Police say Hughes had a blood alcohol content of 0.28 percent when he hit cyclists Carla McCloud and Amanda Wheeler. McCloud later died.
He is set to appear in court on October 15.
