Oregon 7-year-old sets up lemonade stand to help mom with cancer

TIGARD, Ore. (KOIN) – Luke Engelman takes his responsibilities as the oldest of four children seriously. He decided to go to work to help his mother battle cancer.

Luke is seven.

His mom, Lisa Engelman, was diagnosed with follicular non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2013.

“It’s a kind of cancer that’s not easy to get rid of. It’s not that powerful but not easy to get rid of,” said Luke.

This type of cancer forms tumors in the lymph nodes and elsewhere in the body.

Medical definitions say follicular non-Hodgkins lymphoma accounts for about 20 percent of all non-Hodgkins lymphomas. “Patients with advanced-stage follicular lymphoma are not cured with current therapeutic options,” WebMd.com states.

So Luke decided to have a lemonade stand at their Oregon home to help raise money “to pay for the treatment in Mexico.”

Lisa was diagnosed just four months after she gave birth to her, and husband Stephen’s, fourth child in 2013. She’s already done chemo and it didn’t work, so she and her family are looking at natural healing treatments in Mexico.

Luke said he’s not going to stop doing what he can until his mom is healthy. To donate and help the Engleman family click here.
